Sandgrains is a documentary about the local eff ects of global fi shing. The story takes us all the way from Africa to the corridors of the EU Parliament where an eff ort to reform Europe’s failing fi shing industry is underway.
As a young boy Zé left his Cape Verdean fi shing village for a better life in Sweden. Years later he returns to fi nd his village transformed, and the beach where he once played football has disappeared. His family now digs sand from the ocean fl oor to sell as cheap concrete, because fi shing no longer puts enough food on the table.
