Several people have been killed in Turkish prisons, so far. The incident in Diyarbakir
Prison on the 24th of September, 1996 was one of the largest ones. That day, the
prisoners, who will be visited by their parents, were faced with the attacks of soldiers,
policemen and guards with nailed timbers, sticks and nightsticks. During the incident, ten prisoners were beaten to death and twenty-three prisoners got injured. In 'The Hatch Door' documentary, the story is told by seriously wounded prisoners recovering from the edge of death, the mother of one of the murdered prisoners and one of the attorneys of the prisoners. The Hatch Door documentary asks the question on “How a human being can be beaten to death?” and thus it refl ects the course of event with all its details on the white screen.
